Research today for the future of agriculture

Today, food production is primarily governed by agricultural policy arather than by our nutritional needs.

Farm systems that consume finite resources and burden the environment are not sustainable.

  • Emissions of agricultural and food-based greenhouse gases are major causes of global warming.
  • Continued nitrogen and phosphorus eutrophication of oceans leads to increasing areas of dying seabeds.
  • Reduction of biodiversity, soil depletion and pesticide residues in both the environment and our food are not sustainable in the long term.

Agriculture needs to be transformed from the ground up. Mitigating symptoms is not sufficient.

Today's specialized agriculture needs to be converted into a recycling agriculture based on local, renewable resources.

2000m2 Baltic - Co-creating food culture and innovation 

Transforming food systems on a global scale is one of the single most important things that need to happen in order to meet Agenda 2030 goals and to steer away from the worst climate change scenarios.

This project is funded by the Swedish Institute with partners in Estonia - Research Centre of Organic Farming of Estonian University of Life Sciences EULS RCOF (Eesti Maaülikooli Mahekeskus) and Estonian Organic Farming Foundation, (EOFF); in Poland - Stanisław Karłowski-Foundation/ FSK (Fundacja imienia Stanisława Karłowskiego) and in Sweden - Rosendal trädgård.
